February is National Pet Dental Health Month, but Dr. John R. Lewis, assistant professor of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (Ryan-VHUP), wants to make something crystal clear:

“Dental health is a not a month-long proposition, but rather a life-long effort.”

Still, in his day-to-day appointments and interactions with clients, Dr. Lewis is surprised by the number of people who never considered brushing their pet’s teeth. Read more here »

Simple Tips to Decrease Chance of Heaves this Winter

With winter weather comes winter-weather-prep for horse owners to ensure a healthy season.

Here in the mid-Atlantic region, this typically means ensuring horses are warm and appropriately blanketed for the impending cold. However, even in climates where temperatures remain mild throughout the winter, horses suffer from ailments similar to those that plague their owners, from runny noses to chapped skin – and even cabin fever.
